AMHERST, N.Y. — With about 20 minutes before the polls close, Jane Corwin’s campaign manager Christopher Grant gave a pep talk to about 80 volunteers gathered at her headquarters.
He told them that 600 different volunteers helped over the course of the campaign, including 400 this past Saturday.
The campaign knocked on more than 45,000 doors and made 198,000 phone calls. Grant stressed these were made by volunteers, not paid staff.
Volunteers made an additional 5,000 calls from home, he said.
A program to get Corwin supporters to reach out directly to their friends resulted in more than 4,000 personalized mailings.
"Quite frankly, I don’t know how it’ll turn out but when we win it’s going to be in large part because of this GOTV operation," Grant told POLITICO. "Hopefully it goes our way, though."
